literature在論文寫作中常作「研究文獻」，而非「文學」翻譯在論文中的第一章緒論中常有literature review（文獻回首）一節，若是篇幅較長也可獨立成一章。
literature是不成數名詞，因此表「很多文獻」要用much literature，不可用
*many literatures；但如果是literature前有形容詞時，則可加不定冠詞a，例如a
substantial literature（大量文獻）。別的，若是指不同學科或種類的文獻時是可用literatures，例如psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic literatures（心理說話學和神經說話學的文獻），或是用two types of literature。
